Social Media for Educators

Workshop will be recorded and in CST

What is the “Social Media for Educators” Workshop?

Participants will learn how to use social media to recruit the best students, batch and organize content, and find sustainable methods for sharing content throughout the academic year. Learn how to use social media to bolster your promotion dossier and share with the world information about your school, current students, and studio culture.

This workshop is a hands-on, immersive experience rather than a lecture. There will be room for individual feedback, collaborative learning, and any specific questions you may have.

What to expect?

Recruiting can feel like a lot of pressure, especially during this wildly unpredictable academic year. You may have heard from colleagues that meeting prospective students "where they are" on social media and having a studio website is a helpful recruiting tool. However, after all of the new tech that you incorporated into your life and work during the pandemic you are probably not thrilled about adding yet another THING.

This workshop is for anyone who has felt frustrated or overwhelmed with the idea of creating a social media presence and/or studio website for recruiting. All questions welcome no matter how basic! We will break down the strategies to make social media sustainable for you and effective as a recruiting tool. We will give overviews of how to use Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and will fill in any gaps in your knowledge about how to navigate some of the non-intuitive features. Using real-world examples, we will analyze the elements of effective social media accounts and websites. We will also cover how to set boundaries you feel comfortable with, how to delegate these boundaries to students clearly and how to guide students in creating their own social media presence. Most importantly, this is a hands-on workshop. There will be time to work on building your own website and social media accounts so you can ask questions and troubleshoot as issues arise. We are confident everyone can do this well!

  1. Everyone can do it well.

  2. Sustainability is everything and that's my mission with this.

  3. Fill any gaps in your knowledge or education about how to use these non-intuitive apps.

  4. Feeling stuck or behind because of what you see on facebook, let's work through it.

  5. How to pivot in this post covid world and support current and future students in that transition.

Open to any and all things!

What is Body, Mind, Spirit?

The BODY MIND SPIRIT Method is based on an idea that the best music is the music you make with your whole self. That by cultivating and balancing your SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, and PASSION in all areas of your music-making and professional development, you can build a career that is not only successful, but enjoyable and fulfilling as well. You can bring joy back to your practice sessions. You can communicate meaningful art that moves people and increases understanding. You can reduce or eliminate performance anxiety. You can prepare and perform music in a way that is more consistent, stylistic, and expressive. And you can fall more in love with music every day, even when the road is difficult.
